Right on time on Tuesday morning after Pentecost, WASEL’s LR 11000 crawler crane was ready for operation at the pipe bridge construction site.
Before that could happen, a “marathon” of preparations had to be completed. One of the main tasks was to load one of the two 1,000-tonne crawler cranes at the handling area, transport it to its new location approximately one kilometre away, and reassemble it on site. The starting signal for this operation was the ten-day closure of the A42 motorway section, which began on the Friday evening before Pentecost. From that moment on, the clock was ticking for everyone involved in the project.
Using the remaining 1,000-tonne crawler crane at the handling area, all crane components were loaded onto WASEL transport vehicles in the exact sequence required for reassembly and moved to the assembly site. There, a 250-tonne telescopic crane was ready and waiting to support the reassembly of the LR 11000.
On Tuesday morning after Pentecost, the final phase of the project began: dismantling the first section of the old pipe bridge across the River Emscher using the now operational crawler crane.
But that wasn’t the end of the job.
In a final stage within the 10-day motorway closure, the 1,000-tonne crawler crane had to be dismantled once more, transported back to the handling area, and reloaded. This final project milestone was also successfully achieved!
A dedicated WASEL team worked around the clock to successfully carry out this unique large-scale project.
