Brilon, October 2025.
A true heavyweight took center stage at the Brilon wind farm: the Liebherr LR 11000, one of the most powerful crawler cranes in the world. With its enormous lifting capacity and precise handling, it is perfectly suited for projects that demand maximum safety and millimeter accuracy – such as the installation of two new wind turbines in the Sauerland region.
Within just six days, the 1,300-tonne crane was fully assembled. To make this possible, 85 truck transports were required to deliver the massive components to the construction site. The logistics were a challenge in themselves: the heavy loads had to be maneuvered through narrow and winding roads across several villages – a task requiring careful planning, coordination, and teamwork.
Assembly of the enormous boom began with the base section, followed by the installation of a 168-meter main boom with a 12-meter fixed jib. The boom consists of segments measuring 6 and 12 meters in length. A team of seven experienced WASEL technicians handled the assembly on site, ensuring a smooth and safe setup.
“Projects like this show what’s possible when experience, teamwork, and advanced technology come together,” the WASEL team emphasized. “Our LR 11000 isn’t just a technical powerhouse – it represents the trust our clients place in us for large-scale projects.”
With the successful operation in Brilon, WASEL once again demonstrates its expertise in wind energy and heavy lift assembly.
