WASEL Supports Wind Turbine Dismantling at the Sendenhorst Wind Farm

At the Sendenhorst Wind Farm, WASEL supported the dismantling of a GE 2.3 wind turbine with high-capacity crane technology. The dismantling project was successfully carried out by Windservice Nord, a company of the Hagedorn Group.

A brand-new Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 from WASEL’s heavy crane division was deployed for the project. The 800-tonne mobile crane was configured in the TYV23EN setup with a 35-meter luffing jib and 134 tonnes of counterweight. A total of 13 transport vehicles were required to deliver the crane components and all necessary equipment to the site. Once fully assembled, the crane reached a total operating weight of more than 375 tonnes, including the load.

The operation was supported by a Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 from WASEL’s Duisburg branch, which served as the assist and assembly crane.

The dismantling work presented the project team with several technical challenges, including large bolted connections requiring tightening torques of more than 15,000 Newton meters. Thanks to the close cooperation of everyone involved, the project was completed safely and on schedule.

For WASEL’s heavy crane division, the project provided a welcome change from its usual wind energy construction assignments and once again demonstrated the versatility of modern heavy lifting technology.
